Buiding Bathroom cubby shelves

This time I’m making cubby shelves to go in the main bathroom.

The boards after I got them cut to size.  Just more renovation scraps I’m recycling. *grins*

Piecing it all together in the playroom…

After I sanded the edges and used wood filler to hide any blemishes..

Waiting for the paint to dry and then I’ll mount them on the wall upstairs. =)

I’ll post the finished results once they are in place in the bathroom.
I should get them up some time after my orthodontist appointment at noon.
It’ll give the paint a bit longer to dry. *grins*  I’m a bit messy, but feeling pleased with the results.

Puttin in a closet door.

I’ve been getting the building bug more often, so that’s a good sign that the weather is improving, as well as my mood.

I built framework recently so I could mount a closet door to the end of our hallway.  Took some fiddling, but the end result seems to work fine.   The first photo I was getting things sorted out and preparing to go at it.

Then I propped the door up to get a visual idea of where I wanted things to be mounted.

..and finally the finished stage. Aaron snuck an arm into the shot as I snapped the picture *lol*

The server stuff can now be closed up and out of sight. =) I even mounted an additional vent above the door.  I still need to add dry wall and do the finishing above the door.  But all in all I am happy with the results.

Guinea Cage

I also did up the upper level of our babies cage the other day. (I didn’t remember to snap pictures til near the completion stage though, sorry)

I had to cut the opening out a bit more and mount the ramp before it was completed and able to go in their cage. But that was a fairly quick process.  The main time spent was waiting for the waterproofing treatment to dry and air out so it would be safe for them.

Got it put into the cage yesterday evening.

So far they just chew on the ramp, but it’s all alien to them so it will be a while before they explore I’m sure.

Can I just say, I love when my creative muse visits me.

Life tends to drown her out when stresses hit and then I am struggling to find a peaceful moment to coax her back into light.

Easel

One of the projects that I worked on before Christmas was an easel.
I found the plans online for a basic, easy to put together easel. And, after I dug through our scrap wood and found some pieces that I could work with, I started to put it all together.

There were a few tweaking instances where things didn’t look like I wanted them to, or the bolts I had were too short for the thickness of the wood.  But I worked that all out and I think it turned out pretty well.

I used an old drywall pan and two yogurt containers for the catch alls on it. And I put a hook on the middle peg to hang a bucket from.
It works fairly well for a first try, although I do need to work out a stabilizer for the back leg portion.. and maybe build a bigger easel some  other day.

Finished hutch

The hutch I was working on finally aired out enough and so I spent this morning/afternoon time doing some rearranging and setting up.
It’s mounted to the back wall, as well as the book shelves so it’s really stable/sturdy.

Shamus being disappointed ’cause I made them harder to reach. =-)  Snufflebug And Squeakers seem to approve with their new home.
Looking at it I’ve decided I will be adding an upper level with a ramp for them to have more wander space… but I’ll let them relax and enjoy this set up for now. *grins*

I stil need to snap some photo’s of the babies.  You can kind of see Squeakers ont he right side of the cage though *lol*

Building Bug (photos)

I’ve been spontaneous building again….
(I never ‘plan’ to build any specific thing usually.. the wood kinda tells me what it want’s to be. *lol*)

It’s been in the high 20˚C here for those wondering about the lack of posting lately. *smiles*
Been playing outside from morning ’til evening.

I built a outdoor bench the other day =-D
Here’s a shot of it as I was piecing and adjusting 2×4’s

First draft… I was looking at it at ths point with a wrinkled nose.
Something wasn’t setting right with me and I couldn’t place what it was right away.

I finally figured it out… the seat spacing was wrong (ie: there was none) so I adjusted the slats.
I liked it much better after I took out a 2×4 and spaced them evenly.

And.. here it is getting the final inspection from the Cat Club. *lol*
(Bongo is hard to see.. but he’s underneath batting at Shamus’ paws. *lol*)

It went through a few random alterations, but all in all I think it is a decent bench. =-D

The back should be angled I think, but I wasn’t sure how to do that other than cutting the boards. *shrugs*

Today I worked on a large book stand.  I’d say its 4′ by almost 4′

It’s not completed yet, I need to take it apart and plane it still, then put it back together and tack on a plywood back.
(The planer is heavy and so it’s hard for me to drag it out alone so I decided to piece it together today.)

I’ll probably work on it some more tomorrow.

OH!!!  Aaron also got the building bug again and built this handy dandy cat box for the shelf on my computer stand. *grins*

Shamus approves. *grins*

I built a planter box!

So, after Aaron and I went outside this afternoon to start on the back yard stuff some more …

And he was like ‘you build the planter boxes and I’ll work on finishing up the lawn”

Ooookkkk *lol* I hadn’t even gotten to the whole ‘planter boxes’ stage of the yard process.. but anywhooo *lol*

So!!  With No Prior Plan (and having never built one before) I set to work trying to figure out what to make.  Spontaneous Planter Box frenzy! *zomg* No pressure or nuttin’ *snicker*

I rooted around the wood pile and seperated boards of different thicknesses/height first.  Once that was done I started laying out boards to try to get something to take shape in my head.

Because the boards were 4′ I decided that doing 4′ x 2′ x 2′ planters would be the best idea.  Quicker together, less cutting work.

I laid out a general box plan on the carport floor and then started rooting some more for bracer pieces that would help support the walls.

I had a few set backs during the process… but all in all I think the box turned out fairly nice.

Only 3 more to go *lol*
